Today is Engineer’s Day in the Netherlands.
I only know 1 engineer, not in the Netherlands, but in Nepal. A young lady named Rashmi: she grew up in adversity but always worked hard and did her best. With our scholarship she made her dream come true: she became an engineer. Rashmi is small in size, but big on girl power. We at 4 Smiling Faces are very proud of her: she seized her chance and now lives her own life on her own terms. That is all we ever wanted for her. She just did it. Go Rashmi 💪🏼❤️
It is International Women’s Day. In Nepal, this is an important day that does not go unnoticed: on this day, the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women are celebrated. Girls and women in Nepal are the key to lasting improvement of the situation in the country. As long as the position, education and status of girls and women are not fundamentally supported, strengthened and improved, Nepal will never progress. You simply cannot improve the situation in a country if you do not take half of the population seriously and/or do not value it. And Nepalese girls and women are formidable: powerful, tough, strong, enterprising, loving, caring and above all inspiring. I4 Smiling Faces is very proud that for years they have been able to help young people – and especially girls – in Nepal to realize their full potential. And we succeed again and again: this year, 7 girls have completed their education thanks to a scholarship from 4 Smiling Faces and are now working on their own future.
4 Smiling Faces is celebrating its birthday today: we are 16 years young. Unbelievable that we have been able to support children in Nepal for so many years. Proud of what we have done, are doing and will achieve. Grateful 🙏🏽 for all the donations, brainpower, help and support from everyone and everything. Never thought we would come this far and go much further.
Being dependent on and/or confined to a wheelchair is always challenging. Wherever you are. But in some countries this is much more true than in others. One of the places where living with a wheelchair is a huge deal is Nepal: the country is not at all designed for wheelchair users. There are no standard ramps on/off sidewalks, extra wide hallways, disabled toilets, elevators or any other facilities. And those are just the practical challenges. Many people with disabilities in Nepal are confronted with prejudice and stigma on a daily basis. They can use all the support they can get; that is why we have been supporting the Disabled Rehabilitation Center Nepal for years. Will you help support them?
