Solarsystem
The installation of the solar system in September 2008 was the first major project we realized at the DRC Nepal. It was realized in collaboration with a fellow DRC volunteer Gemma Langdown from England.
Before, the children weren’t really keen on taking a shower, because the water was ice-cold. Hygiene is even more necessary when 55 children live so closely together. And thus we decided that taking a shower should be a happier experience with nice hot water, warmed by the sun.
Previous to the installation, there were cases of pneumonia in the DRC. Since the installation of the system and the availability of hot water to shower, there have been no more cases of this disease. To date, the solar system is still working satisfactorily and the children love to take a nice hot shower.
