Thanks to a scholarship from 4 Smiling Faces, the following young people have completed their education, are working, building their own independent lives and making their own choices. We are very proud of these beautiful people who make Nepal a better place!
Fudoma is a former resident of the DRC. She has been a PCL-certified nurse since 2018. She is currently working in the neonatal intensive care unit of Nepalās largest teaching hospital, the Nepal Medical College in Kathmandu. Read more here See more here
Kabita is a former resident of the NWCSS orphanage. She has been a PCL-certified nurse since 2018. She worked as a surgical assistant for a few years at, among others, the OM Hospital and Research Center in Kathmandu. In 2023, she was given the opportunity to continue her studies in Japan from another source.
Maya is a former resident of the DRC. She completed the then-existing extended school program Plus 2 Management in 2019. Since then, she has worked as a secretary. She has now married the man of her own choice, and they run their own business together in Kathmandu.
Tshering is a former resident of the DRC. She has been a PCL-certified nurse since 2020. She is worked n the intensive care unit of the OM Hospital and Research Center in Kathmandu for a few years. Lhamu is a former resident of the DRC. She has been a PCL-certified nurse since 2020. Since 2023, she has been living near her father and his family in Kuwait. She works there in a large hospital and is making plans to further her career in another country.
Ellie is a former resident of the DRC. She has been a PCL-certified nurse since 2020. She is currently working in the general surgical department of OM Hospital and Research Center in Kathmandu. See more here
Tashi is a former resident of the DRC. He has a Bachelorās degree in Hotel Management since 2023. He completed his final internship in a 5-star hotel in Dubai, where he is currently still working. He is making plans for the next step of his career in another country.
Passang was in the DRC’s outpatient program. She completed the PCL Medical Laboratory Technology course in the summer of 2023 and now works in a recognized laboratory in Kathmandu, building her own independent future.
In addition, there are three young people who we have temporarily supported with a scholarship. They have now received/found another personal sponsor. In most cases, these are former foreign volunteers who have spent some time in the orphanage in the past with and with the children, who finance the education of their favourite child.
Thanks to the scholarship from 4 Smiling Faces, these young people are busy with their further education, doing an internships, gaining work experience and thus taking steps towards their own, independent life.
Gita is a highly valued volunteer at the after-school program SHCOP. She has a Bachelorās degree in Business Studies since 2020, specializing in accounting. Due to Covid 19, she was unable to apply for a job for a long time and she continues to learn. She has now obtained her teaching qualification and will started her masterās degree in January 2024. We know Dispashmi through the outpatient program of the NWCSS orphanage and she and her family were severely effected by the earthquakes of 2015. She will do her entrance exam in august 2024 and – when she passes, will start the 3-year PCL-course Nursing in 2023.
Rashmi is a former resident of the DRC. She is a PCL-certified Civil Engineer since spring of 2023 and is now working in a company in Kathmandu to gain work experience. After one or two years she will continue her studies for the Bachelorās degree in Civil Engineering. See more here
Suddha is a former resident of the NWCSS Orphanage. In 2019, she completed the extended school program Plus2 science with a scholarship from us. She then started teaching, but that stopped due to corona. She started the 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications in 2021.

We know Nisha through the outpatient program of the NWCSS orphanage and she and her family were severely effected by the earthquakes of 2015. She started the 4-year Bachelorās degree in Business Studies in 2023.
We also help two exceptions to the rule; a brother and sister orphaned by the 2015 earthquakes. They are alone in the world. They were allowed to go to a free school, very far from the house where they live. There was no money for a better school, closer to home. This has been funded by 4 Smiling Faces since 2016, so that they too can just be children.
Brother and sister Ushtav and Ushika have been regular visitors to the SHCOP after-school program for years. They are still in high school. Both are very smart and hard working. Ushtav skipt a class and wants to become a doctor and Ushika has – without a doubt – a bright future too.

Tashi is voormalig bewoner van de DRC. Hij is sinds 2023 Bachelor in Hotelmanagement. Hij heeft zijn eindstage gelopen in een 5-sterrenhotel in Dubai, waar hij na zijn afstuderen nog steeds werkt. Hij maakt plannen voor een volgende stap in haar carriĆØre in een ander land.
Passang kennen we van het ambulante programma van de DRC. Ze heeft in het voorjaar van 2023 de PCL-opleiding Medische Laboratoriumtechniek afgerond en werkt nu in een erkend laboratorium in Kathmandu en werkt zo aan haar eigen, zelfstandige toekomst.Ā
Daarnaast zijn er nog drie jongeren die we tijdelijk hebben ondersteund met een beurs. Zij hebben inmiddels een andere, persoonlijke sponsor gekregen/gevonden. Dit zijn in de meeste gevallen voormalige, buitenlandse vrijwilligers die in het verleden enige tijd in het weeshuis hebben doorgebracht met en bij de kinderen, die de opleiding van hun favoriete kind financieren.

Tshering, Fudoma en Ellie zijn samen opgegroeid in de DRC Nepal. Dankzij een beurs van 4 Smiling Faces zijn ze inmiddels gediplomeerde verpleegkundige. Ze vertellen zelf wat dat voor hen betekent.

Gita is een zeer gewaardeerd vrijwilliger van de buitenschoolse opvang SHCOP. Ze is sinds 2020 Bachelor in Business Studies met als specialiteit accountactie. Door Covid 19 kon ze lang niet solliciteren en leert ze verder. Ze heeft inmiddels haar onderwijskwalificatie behaald en is begin 2024 gestart de mastersopleiding. Zie hier meer

Nisha kennen we via het ambulante programma van het NWCSS weeshuis en zij en haar familie zijn zwaar getroffen door de aardbevingen van 2015.. Ze is in 2023 gestart met de 4-jarige opleiding Bachelor in Business Studies.
Daarnaast helpen wij ook twee uitzonderingen op de regel; een broer en zus die door de aardbevingen van 2015 zijn verweesd. Ze zijn alleen op de wereld. Ze mochten naar een gratis school, heel ver van het huis waar ze wonen. Er was geen geld voor een betere school, dichter bij huis. Die wordt sinds 2016 bekostigd door 4 Smiling Faces, zodat ook zij gewoon kind kunnen zijn.
Broer en zus Ushika en Ushtav zijn al jaren vaste bezoekers van de buitenschoolse opvang SHCOP. Ze zitten nog op de middelbare school. Beiden zijn enorm slim en werken hard. Ushtav heeft een klas overgeslagen wil dokter worden. Ushika gaat zonder twijfel ook een mooie toekomst tegemoet.
De kinderen van de Lotus familie willen allemaal doorstuderen na hun middelbare school; sommigen hebben al duidelijke plannen, anderen nog niet zo ver omdat ze nog jong zijn. Wij willen hen allemaal helpen om hun dromen te verwezenlijken. Daarvoor is heel veel geld nodig. Helpt u mee? Daarmee geven we hen een ongelooflijk cadeau: een onafhankelijke toekomst die ze zelf vorm geven en waarin ze hun eigen keuzes maken.
Voor deze jongens is hun toekomst al begonnen. Ze zijn klaar met de middelbare school en gaan door met hun vervolgopleiding. Daarvoor is dringend nog veel meer geld nodig.

Voor de rest van de kinderen hebben we gelukkig iets meer tijd om een beurs bij elkaar te sparen; neemt niet weg dat ook voor hun toekomst alle bijdragen meer dan welkom zijn.

The children of the Lotus family all want to continue their studies after they finish high school; some already have clear plans, others don’t yet because they are still young. We want to help them all realize their dreams. That requires a lot of money. Will you help? In doing so, we give them an incredible gift: an independent future that they shape themselves and make their own choices.
For these boys, their future starts this year. They have almost finished high school and want to continue their further education. Money is urgently needed for this.

Children in Nepal start kindergarten at the age of 3: Lower Kinder Garden or LKG. A year later they go to Upper Kinder Garden or UKG.
From the age of 5 they go to primary school: this lasts from years 1 to 7. Years 8 to 12 is secondary school and ends with the SLC exam for the School Leaving Certificate. This is followed by a 4-year bachelor’s degree.
With your SLC you can also go for PCL training for a Proficiency Certificate Level. This is a vocational training course, mainly for ’technical’ studies, where learning in practice is very important. Think of nursing, construction, laboratory technology, etc. You can then start working or continue studying: a bachelor’s program lasts 3 years.
(Many PCL graduates choose to first gain a few years of work experience. This way they can continue studying for their Bachelor degree. This way they improve their future prospects. This is extra important for girls, lower castes, young people without a network/ connections and/or with a background of poverty, raised in homes and/or from the countryside. All important things in Nepal).
Once they have completed their bachelor’s degree, students can obtain their master’s degrees in 2 years. Real students then need another 5 years for their PhD.
A different trajectory applies to a number of disciplines. For example, for those who want to become a lawyer. After the first, they must complete a second bachelor’s degree: 3 years of LL.B or bachelor of law.
Kinderen in Nepal starten op 3-jarige leeftijd met de kleuterschool: Lower Kinder Garden of wel LKG. Een jaar later gaan ze naar Upper Kinder Garden of wel UKG.
Vanaf hun 5de gaan ze naar de basisschool: die duur van jaar 1 tot en met 7. Jaar 8 tot en met 12 is de middelbare school en wordt afgesloten met het SLC-examen voor het School Leaving Certificate. Daarna volgt een 4-jarige bachelorsopleiding.
Met je SLC kun je ook gaan voor PCL-opleiding voor een Proficiency Certificate Level. Dat is een beroepsopleiding voor met name ātechnischeā studies waarbij leren in de praktijk erg belangrijk is. Denk daarbij aan verpleegkunde, bouwkunde, laboratoriumtechniek etc. Daarna kun je gaan werken of doorstuderen: een bachelorsopleiding duurt dan 3 jaar.
(Veel PCL gediplomeerden kiezen er voor om eerst een paar jaar werkervaring op te doen. Op die manier kunnen ze op opleiding door studeren voor hun Bachelors. Zo verbeteren ze hun toekomstperspectief. Dat is extra belangrijk voor meisjes, lagere casten, jongelui zonder netwerk/connecties en/of met een achtergrond van armoede, opgegroeid in tehuizen en/of van het platteland. Allemaal zaken die van belang zijn in Nepal).
Eenmaal bachelor kunnen studenten in 2 jaar hun masters behalen. Echte studiebollen hebben daarna nog 5 jaar nodig voor hun doctoraat.
Voor een aantal vakgebieden geldt een ander trajet. Bijvoorbeeld voor zij die advocaat willen worden. Zij moeten na de eerste, nog een tweede bacheloropleiding voltooien: 3 jaar LL.B of wel bachelor of law.

In 2022, we requested special attention in our fund applications for Sachina, a promising pupil of the after-school program SHCOP. She could and desperately wanted to continue her studies, but her family could not possibly finance this. Fortunately, we have managed to raise sufficient funds and Sachina can start her further education in 2023: PCL Nursing.
Sachina and her sister Sabina symbolize many more girls and boys who we already help with a scholarship or who we would really like to help. The sisters have been regular visitors to the SCHOP, which we support. They are now mainly active there as enthusiastic volunteers.
The girls came to the program in 2015because the village where they grew up was completely destroyed during the earthquakes. Miraculously, they, their mother and brother survived. Unfortunately, their father did not. They fled to Kathmandu, where life was and is not easy for them. The family is poor and in Nepal there is no support for single parents.
Fortunately, there was room for the sisters and their brother at the after-school program where they received the necessary support (care, nutrition, attention, homework guidance). Partly because of this, the girls were able to complete their secondary school education in a glorious manner.
Sachina and Sabina are very smart girls who enjoy learning. They are therefore very keen to continue their studies. Not only for themselves but especially to support their mother and brother and improve their lives. When they finish studying, they go to work and want to contribute to their brother’s further education and make their mother’s life a little easier. Paying it forward!
