The DRC kitchen has been feeding 55+ children and their carers every day for years. The very tasty and nutritious food is prepared on a 2-burner stove. After years of loyal service, it can no longer be repaired and needs to be replaced.
What is the solution?
The solution is to purchase and install a new three-burner stove and the construction of the necessary chimney.

A new, safe stove with an extra burner that makes cooking faster and better for even more people.
De DRC-keuken voed al jaren dagelijks 55+ kinderen en hun begeleiders. Het zeer smakelijke en voedzame eten wordt klaargemaakt op een 2pitsfornuis. Na jaren trouwe dienst is dat niet meer te repareren en aan vervanging toe.
Wat is de oplossing?
De oplossing is aanschaf en installatie van een nieuw fornuis met drie pitten en de aanleg van de daarvoor noodzakelijke schoorsteen.
Wat is het resultaat?
Een nieuw, veilig fornuis met een extra pit waardoor er sneller en beter kan worden gekookt voor nog meer mensen.
In 2018, as one of our first projects in the DRC we installed a solar system for the hot water supply; the children no longer had to take a cold showers. Since then, repairs and maintenance have been carried out, and damage from the 2015 earthquakes was repaired. In 2022 the system no longer functioned properly, the children were taking cold showers again.
What is the solution?
The solution is carrying out major maintenance and repairs.
What is the result?
The solar system is working as it should again and the hot water supply has been restored. No more cold showers.
In 2008 hebben we (als een van onze eerste projecten) een zonne-energie systeem aangelegd in de DRC, zodat de kinderen voortaan een warme douche konden nemen. Na de aardbevingen van 2015 hebben we het systeem laten repareren. Anno 2022 zijn enkele van de buizen kapot en daardoor werkt het systeem niet goed meer. De kinderen staan dus weer onder een koude douche.
Wat is de oplossing?
De oplossing is aanbrengen van enkele nieuwe buizen en nog wat kleine reparaties en upgrades.
Wat is het resultaat?
Het resultaat is dat het solar systeem weer werkt zoals het hoort en de kinderen weer een warme douche kunnen nemen.
Het pleisterwerk in de kinderkamer van de DRC is verouderd, vervallen, lelijk en onvoldoende. Behalve dat het er niet uitziet en de indruk geeft van gebrek aan zorg, is het ook onveilig: vocht komt door de muren naar binnen. Dat is niet alleen oncomfortabel, maar veroorzaakt ook een slechte atmosfeer met vocht, muffigheid en schimmel. Altijd ongezond, maar zeker als het om kwetsbare kinderen gaat.
Voor het pleisterwerk werd aangebracht zag het er zo uit.
Wat is de oplossing?
De oplossing is het aanbrengen van vochtwerend pleisterwerk aan de binnen- en buitenkant.

Wat is het resultaat?
Het nieuwe pleisterwerk zorgt voor verdwijning van het vochtprobleem in de kinderkamers, de muffe lucht, schimmel en bedompte atmosfeer. Een algehele verbetering van het binnenklimaat in de kinderkamers en daar vaart iedereen wel bij.
The plasterwork in the children’s rooms of the DRC is outdated, dilapidated, ugly and inadequate. In addition to looking unsightly and giving the impression of lack of care, it is also unsafe: moisture enters through the walls. This is not only uncomfortable, but also creates a bad atmosphere with damp, musty air and mould. Always unhealthy, but especially when it is a space for vulnerable children.

The solution is to apply moisture-resistant plaster on the inside and out.

The new plasterwork removes the moisture problem from the children’s rooms, the stale air, mold and stuffy atmosphere. An overall improvement of the indoor climate in the children’s rooms and from that, everyone benefits.
